Mateusz Kupiec

At TKP, Mateusz is part of the GDPR team in the technology media communications (TMT) practice group. Mateusz advises on a broad range of new technologies law issues, and focuses on personal data protection law, privacy, and access to public information.

He gained his professional experience at a law firm in Krakow that specializes in personal data protection, and also working in public institutions.

Mateusz has authored academic publications on personal data protection and information protection law, and took part in the OPUS 18 research project A scientific model for copyright reform in the digital single market according to EU directives headed by Professor Ryszard Markiewicz. Mateusz was awarded a Minister of Science and Higher Education grant for students with outstanding academic achievements. He was awarded first place and a special prize in the IX Office of Competition and Consumer Protection student essay competition.

Mateusz is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, where he completed a master’s degree and thesis in the Intellectual Property Law Department on permitted use of text and data for exploration under Directive 2019/790. Where is EU copyright law headed with regard to supporting innovation? Mateusz is a graduate of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg German Law School, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, and the Jagiellonian University, and of the American Law School run by the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law Washington D.C., and the Jagiellonian University. He studied at the IT/TMT school run by the H. Grocjusz Intellectual Property Law Center and the Kraków Intellectual Property Law Summer School, and was awarded a grant by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Mateusz has a fluent command of English and German, including legal language.
