Trademark: a new definition, new types of markings

15 Dec 2017

In the years 2016-2017, significant changes took place in trademark law both at the national and EU levels. In Poland, the amendment to the Act of 30 June 2000 became effective on 16 April 2016. The reform of EU trademarks was divided into two stages. Part of the changes became applicable on 23 March 2016, and the remaining one on 1 October 2017. Since the last date, the new Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) on the European Trademark Regulation 2017/1001 of 14 June 2017 (replaced the Regulation 207/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the community trade mark) has also became effective.

More information on the reform of the EU trade marks may be found in the article by Anna Sokołowska-Ławniczak, PhD, published in the Rzeczpospolita daily.
